The philosophy behind metaquark is simple: Create easy-to-use Mac applications that do one thing and do it well; applications that blend into your operating system so seamlessly, you’ll ask yourself why Apple didn’t ship them with OS X.
It’s software like this that doesn’t let its creators rest until every quirk is resolved, every pixel is in place and everything feels just right.
We’re happy to hear about your thoughts. Let us know about problems using our software, suggestions for improvement and everything else that’s on your mind:
For sales, recovering lost license codes and getting your money back (in the unlikely case you are not satisfied with our software):
Jonas started metaquark in early 2006 when he got tired of the harsh beeping of his old alarm clock and wanted to wake up to the tunes of his iTunes library instead – so he developed Aurora.
Since then, he has built up experience designing usable Mac software working at metaquark and elsewhere. He won an award for outstanding usability at Germany’s national computer science competition in 2006, refueling his interest in applications that work for humans and not against them.
When not hacking away for metaquark, Jonas is a student at Potsdam, Germany’s Hasso Plattner Institute for IT Systems Engineering. He enjoys photography, Berlin’s night life, road cycling, espresso and travelling around the world.
Thomas joined metaquark in early 2007 with the goal to solve the software updating problem on the Mac, a project that has since evolved into AppFresh. Developing software for Apple’s Mac OS X is still a hobby Thomas practices in his limited spare time, mostly during the nights.
He started developing software for Mac OS X when the interest in the platform met the strong need for syncing his xing.com contacts to his local addressbook. Ever since he loves challenging projects making his platform of choice even more useable and flexible. Right now, Thomas focuses completely on AppFresh.
For a living, Thomas is working as head of software development at itCampus, a steadily growing software company based in Leipzig, Germany. Besides developing software he is busy parenting his newborn son Mika, enjoys playing soccer and travelling. Thomas hopes to move to a more sunny, warm and spanish-speaking place some day… maybe Barcelona! Although being vegetarian for about 10 years he still can’t make the move on becoming vegan.
Maik has been a colleage of Thomas for many years before joining metaquark in 2007. He leads itCampus graphics and design efforts and has a strong personal interest in software ergonomics. First task Maik devoted himself to was creating an unique icon for AppFresh illustrating our thoughts and goals on software updating. Actually, the icon used in the preview releases of AppFresh is just work in progress, still missing some crucial graphical components that Maik will finish for the upcoming 1.0 release.
Besides the work on application icons Maik is responsible for metaquark’s website, brand identity and general corporate good-lookingness. He designed the brand new site and has lots of plans to improve it over time. This is just the beginning!
In his spare time Maik loves to help out in the bakery of his girlfriend and dreams of improving his still limited skills as confectioner. He is vegeterian and works on bringing vegan cake recipes to perfection some day. When not in the bakery he is looking for new stereo components and the perfect sound in his living room. Unfortunately there is no time at the moment for taking more spanish lessons or travelling more often than once a year.
Louis is metaquark’s very own icon factory, having produced beautiful user interface icons for Aurora, AppFresh and Home Zone. He’s been in the graphics design field for several years now, and has also designed and coded several websites.
Louis is a junior in high school in New Jersey, just outside of New York City. He loves the city and dreams of owning a BMW or Mini one day. In his free time, he likes to play the piano, make some of his own tunes, and hang out with his friends.
Er lernt auch Deutsch, aber er spricht es noch nicht so gut!
